I visited the the Yokokawa family home and made this drawing about it. The house is about 1,5 hour metro-ride away from central Tokyo, close to the Koshigaya station. 25 Years ago it stood in the midst of rice-paddy’s, today it has been swallowed by greater Tokyo.
Jan Rothuizen is a visual artist and visited Tokyo in 2012. He maps the world in his drawings: personal but not fictitious, sometimes journalistic but more often documentary, and always surprising.
私は横川 さん一家の家を訪ね、このドローイングを描いた。この家は東京の都心から電車1.5時間ほどのところ、越谷駅の近くにある。25年前は田んぼばかりだった場所が、東京の郊外にのみこまれてしまった。
Jan Rothuizenはヴィジュアルアーティスト。2012年に東京を訪問した。ドローイングの中に世界をマッピングし、個人的だがフィクションではなく、ときにジャーナリスティックだがよりドキュメンタリー性の強い作風で、常に見るものを驚かせる。
